Our primary mission is to reduce the spread of HIV infection in the Hispanic communities through early detection and intervention, HIV/AIDS health education and risk reduction education, and linkage to care and treatment services.
Union Positiva, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to leading the fight against the devastating medical, social and economic effects that the HIV/AIDS epidemic and other related illnesses inflict on our Latino communities.
The following programs are available to you at Union Positiva, Inc. free of charge and they are confidential. HIV/AIDS services are available in Spanish and English
1-HIV/AIDS Rapid Testing, Counseling and Referrals:
It is free and confidential. Your results will be ready between 20 and 40 minutes. HIV Rapid testing services are available in Spanish and/ or English.
In the state of Florida you can get tested for HIV if you are 13 years of age or older without your parents’ consent

What can you do if you find out you are HIV positive?
Get counseling, see a physician, and ask about treatment. Union Positiva and other HIV testing sites have counseling and know where you can get help. A physician who is knowledgeable and helpful can assist in pointing you to the best treatments and medications. Ask about new treatments and do your own research and stay informed. |

4- Healthy Relationships
A) For Latina Women who are HIV Positive:
The Healthy Relationships program is a five-session, small-group meeting for Latina women living with HIV or AIDS. It focuses on developing skills, building a belief in yourself that you can make your situation better and creating hope for the future using positive examples and practicing new skills.
The most important parts of the Healthy Relationships program are:
- Understanding stress and how to deal with it in major life areas talking to family, friends and sexual partners about your HIV status, and building healthier and safer relationships.
- Using a variety of activities to teach and practice skills for coping with stress.
- Teaching decision-making skills about whether to tell others about your HIV status and when.
- Having discussions that help motivate a change in risky behaviors and living safer.
- Using movie clips to demonstrate new skills, get the group talking and provide scenes for ‘acting out’ new skills.
This Healthy Relationships program has been adapted by Union Positiva especially for Latina Women who are HIV positive. It is free and confidential, also available in Spanish and/or English, and it provides incentives.

B) For Adult Latino Men who Have Sex with Men and are HIV Positive:

5- The Mobile Health Van HIV/AIDS Services:
We acquired a Mobile Health Van through the Closing the Gap program from the Florida Department of Health. Currently services provided by Union Positiva’s Mobile Health Van are funded by the CDC. This Mobile Health Van allows us to provide free and confidential HIV Rapid Testing and prevention services at regular hours and non-traditional hours doing outreach in Latino HIV/AIDS high risk areas in Miami-Dade County, including rural locations, also throughout neighboring counties in South Florida.
The Mobile Health Van provides access to HIV Rapid Testing Mondays through Saturdays. The schedule includes mornings and afternoons for more traditional locations and populations. It also includes late evening hours for non-traditional locations and populations at highest risk for HIV/AIDS.
Overall, the Mobile Health Van provides outreach, education and prevention, and free and confidential HIV Rapid Testing to those individuals who are at High Risk for HIV/AIDS and that otherwise would not go to get tested at traditional HIV/AIDS Testing sites.

6- MPowerment / Grupo Reacción:
MPowerment’s “Grupo Reacción” is a community-based program designed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for men of all ages who have sex with men. Union Positiva offers this program and it includes its own independent Drop-In Center, uses informal and formal outreach, discussion groups, parties and other events and advertising to reach a broad age range of Latino gay and/or bisexual men ages 17 and older to provide HIV prevention, safer sex, and risk reduction messages. Participation is free and confidential. Program participation is in Spanish, English, and Bilingual.
