Union Positiva is a grassroots, nonprofit and community-based organization that has been providing HIV and AIDS services in South Florida since1997. Based in Miami Dade County, our mission is to attend to the needs of our communities, ensuring access to HIV and AIDS services, and emphasizing wellness, disease prevention, linkages to care and community health improvement. Based on the ethical principles of public health, Union Positiva strives to eliminate health disparities among minorities, Latinos and disenfranchised low-income communities.
As a provider of highly personalized prevention programs, Union Positiva prides itself on client-centered HIV/AIDS interventions in South Florida. Our programs promote a number of HIV risk reduction behaviors. Services provided include Oraquick HIV/AIDS rapid testing, STD screenings, prevention, outreach to high-risk locations at non-traditional hours and linkages to care. Services provided by Union Positiva are confidential and free to all clients.
In 2010, Union Positiva was one of only five nationwide CBOs requested to participate in the development of CDC's updated HIV Counseling, Testing and Referral Guidelines in nonclinical settings. Union Positiva has and continues to implement many CDC-effective behavioral interventions. Since 2004, we have inplemented seven CDC-EBIs among high risk populations - both HIV positive and HIV negative. We are currently collaborating with FIU on two HIV prevention campaigns from SAMHSA targeting Latino and other Miami Dade communities.
